The rich history of the City of Cerritos is documented and displayed in the Cerritos Library's Local History Room. The Library created the room in response to the strong interest shown by residents in the community's past.
The Local History Room contains display cases with historical exhibits and a mural depicting the community's progress from the successful agricultural City of Dairy Valley to the ideal suburban City of Cerritos.
Students and researchers can use this special room to access news clippings and photographs of the City's history. In addition, a database chronicling the growth of the City can be searched by subject or date.
Also available in the Local History Room is "The Story of Cerritos: A History in Progress," a book that covers the community's history from the first Native Americans to settle in the area to the present time. The Library's local history collection also includes a video program called "Cerritos: Our History" featuring interviews with former leaders of Dairy Valley, dairy farmers and long-time residents.
The Local History Room is an inviting area where visitors can explore and
experience the proud history of the community.
