Temptations of the Frijolera Pot

Written and bound by Alex Appella, Temptations of the Frijolera Pot contains 48 full-color illustrations of over 20 poems. The collection reflects an overland journey the author made from Alaska to Costa Rica. Silvana Gonzalez illustrated the book with collage, pencil, ink and watercolor. The text is in English at one opening and in Spanish at the other. Ribbons from both ends mark the reader’s place in the journey.

Originally from Oregon, Alex Appella is a writer and book artist. She began binding her written words on a boat in Alaska, with the idea that original literature should be accessible both for the writer and for the reader. After traveling halfway around the world with a mini-bookbinding workshop on her back and selling her artists' books on the streets and plazas of Latin America, she now writes and binds from her home in Argentina.
