Nocturne

Nocturne, a tunnel book with a detachable cloth-covered, three-panel, wrap-around cover, was digitally printed on Mohawk Superfine paper, and includes original color photographs of Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado taken by artist Laura Russell. ITC Franklin Gothic typeface was used for the text. Looking into the tunnel, the viewer encounters neon lights, automobiles, pedestrians, sirens and honking horns. Everything seen provokes memories, nostalgia and a surreal sense of a forgotten time. The work is housed in a black clamshell box.

Artist Laura Russell said: “The word nocturne is defined as a romantic or dreamy musical composition thought appropriate to night. Feel the sizzle of electricity, the sparkle of a million lights. Neon lights up our skylines and enlivens our nights.”
