Exquisite Horse

Thirty-two contemporary book artists and letterpress printers produced this collaborative work. Each artist designed and printed 100 copies of a section, either a head or tail of a horse, with the specifications that the parts would meet in the middle and that letterpress would be used, at least in part, to execute the print.

The prints are housed in a multi-colored drop-spine box with the inner tray divided by a wall that separates the head and tail parts. The displayed prints may be arranged and reconfigured to create hundreds of combinations, reminiscent of many children’s books and toys.
