Power Play

Power Play is structured as a six-panel Jacob’s Ladder toy. The book and protective wrapper were printed entirely from woodcuts in black and gray, which were created by the artist. Images of rock, paper and scissors appear in each panel with a background carved to imitate wood grain.

Artist Susan Lowdermilk is a printmaker and book artist who teaches studio art and graphic design courses at Lane Community College. She became interested in artists’ books while completing her MFA at the University of Oregon. Using traditional printmaking processes in her work, Lowdermilk also uses computer technology and is influenced by contemporary graphics, typographic design and fine arts.
