Oculus

Oculus, the Latin word for eye, was created by Heidi Stark, a student at Scripps College Press, Claremont. The piece is designed to encourage the reader to look closely at the little things in life. The printed text is staggered on the pages, with the large white spaces playing an integral part of the visual experience.

The images in the book were produced using a variety of techniques including laser printers, altered photographs and scanned original pencil and ink drawings. The binding is sewn-over painted tyvek tapes with an exposed spine. The front and back covers were painted with acrylics and covered with Renaissance Wax.
